SAFE USE OF HAND PALLET TRUCKS – HALF DAY
Before you allow your staff to use a forklift truck you would normally ensure that they’re trained and then issue the relevant authorisation to use it, but you’ve never seen the point of doing the same for a pallet truck, so should you change your approach? Consider, a hand pallet truck is a three-wheeled hand-operated truck designed to move pallets short distances, therefore safe operation pays off in a number of ways, however hand pallet trucks are also classed as items of lifting equipment, so are therefore covered by the Lifting Operations and Lifting Equipment Regulations 1998 (LOLER), and, as they are classified as work equipment, the Provision and Use of Work Equipment Regulations 1999 also comes into play. Collectively, these regulations require that the equipment must be in good working order and that anyone who operates it must be trained to a level that enables it to be used safely. This course covers the basic points that will make your staff aware of the laws and regulations that affect the use of hand pallet trucks together with safe operating practices and rules which when applied will help keep them and other staff safe.

The Lone Working Awareness health and safety course will help to identify the legal obligations and to identify the control measures that need to be put into place to help minimise any risks. The aim of the course is to help candidates to develop safe and effective working practices and good personal skills when dealing with difficult situations during lone working when either in or away from the actual workplace.
At the end of the course candidates will be able to recognise any potentially difficult condition and identify the course of action that would need to be taken through responding assertively, thus either avoiding any escalation or being able to defuse a potentially difficult situation.
